ok, the cars away to get a new speedo on Friday, but the guy at AC says the milage will be set to zero, as its not possible to change it.
Iv heard that it is. Is this correct?

As far aw Im aware they are able to re-set it to the milage your car is currently sitting at, they hook it to their computer and reset it that way. Typical AC monkeys talkin shit i guess, i mean what would happen if my speedo was fooked and had to get a new one - surely it wouldnt be reset to zero even though its a nearly 4 year old car.
They can and will set it to the mileage the old one was sitting at. (im pretty certain)

na na mate i think you have got to take it to an MOT place and they will sort it out.
as that is classed as clocking a car.
and that is illegal.

Well AC will have to deal with it cause its still under warranty which is why im guessing they shall reset it all for you as its not your problem to goto other garages to fix it. Im also pretty certain its only FIAT who are able to connect to the speedos computer and change it but again not 100% sure.
Got this off another forum
Fiat can and will do it.
It costs £35.25 from the fiat garage around here

And coming back onto the MOT thing, as a main dealer would they not do it in their MOT bit anyawy?!
Dont accept a zero mileage- looks good, until you come to sell the car and there's a discrepancy over the mileage!

well, i really dont want to go back to zero, as this could put a question mark over the cars history when i come to sell it.
AC better bloody sort it :x
They know better

The one in Aberdeen is the same - me n Mikey used have a laugh going up and asking the guy in service general questions. Do you have this part, etc. Even for a badge they wanted 3 pages of paperwork done! Damn pencil pushers!
Morons, the lot of em!

thats bullshit.................Any main car dealer can reset the mileage to what ever they want, my pal used to do it in arnold clark, even if they put in the wrong mileage, once hooked upto the computer your engine has an on boared counter, incase of crashes or sellign the engine, or even trying to sell the car fraudanltly as havingless miles than it really has.

Right was on the phone to AC this morning and this is the story......................
Fiat CAN re-set the milage on the car but they dont like to, because the DVLA has recently put a ban on it from main dealers (To try and stop clocking etc)
The guy said to me on the phone that if i want it done, they will do it, however i need to e-mail Fiat for a code or summin, and it is a case of "on my head be it". The guy said that if the mechanic sets it to say 99,000 miles instead of 9,000, then they cant do anything about it as you can only change it once.
Instead, they are going to put a sticker on the back of the speedo unit saying that the car has done 9000 miles more than its showing (what use this will do i do not know), and a part on my logbook.
The good thing is that he also said i get an extra 9000 mile warranty on the car, as they go by the milage showing, so in effect i have a 3yr, 69,000 mile warranty
Martyn

Hmm...knowing clarks I'd still be a bit dubious about it. You getting this confirmed in writing that they will honour the 'extra' 9k on your warranty?

22nd December 2005, 11:38 AM
well he said its not actually bible that this will happen but in the past it has.
Fiat only go by the milage on the speedo, so he said theres a 99% chance they will honour it if something goes wrong between 60- 69,000
however, there is no way i am gonna hit 60,000 in 3 years so i have nuffin to worry about

Hmm, so say for example my position.
Im sitting with no rev counte, but if i go get clocks with a rev counter, the milage would be reset to 0 ok.
So i would need to go to fiat, or some auto electrician, and get my miles put back to 37000 (estimate).
What if i took a pic of my car, with the milage displayed and a paper to date, lol...and showed fiat it...?
22nd December 2005, 02:53 PM
Could be any punto you have done that too though
Mark
22nd December 2005, 03:10 PM
You would need to take your origonal clocks along with you to get your new ones set to the mileage they were previously at, or as Mick pointed out the on board computer takes note of your mileage and only Fiat approved garages can alter this reading.
Fannon
22nd December 2005, 03:15 PM
Yeh, so take the non-rev counter clocks, and show them the milage, and then shove in the new clocks there and then...and they can alter the milage...
Mark
22nd December 2005, 03:18 PM
YEah you'd need both of them physically with you
Fannon
22nd December 2005, 03:35 PM
Phoned fiat there, they said they wouldnt do it....lol...so i suppose theres no point in getting a rev counter.
They said only thing would need to write in the log book that the actual mies are like 37000 and start from 0 on the clocks.
Mark
22nd December 2005, 03:38 PM
Fiat can do it, they are just being akward. People from other forums have said how fiat done it for them and that it cost about £35. I hate dealing with their garages - itwould appear they only employ retards on the desk who know everything about nothing and nothing about everything....

Thats what is happening with mine. As i said, AC said they could do it but wont due some new law.
Mark
22nd December 2005, 03:45 PM
surely its illegal to give the car a new mileage of zero? I presumed that would be clocking the car and AC would be held responsible for this?
simon_16vpunto
22nd December 2005, 03:48 PM
yeah, but thats the way it is. My dads old Company car, a primera needed a new speedo cableor summin at 60,000 and it was re-set to 0
Its fucked up and i am not very happy about the car being re-set but if thats the law......
Fannon
22nd December 2005, 04:04 PM
And no one else apart from fiat can do this right?
No auto electrician can do it or summing?
Edit - I just phoned up this place...
