Okay, so been mucking about with a few ideas as to why the carpc keeps shutting down and finally sussed it out.

So the question is:

Where will I get a feed directly from the battery(or past the ignition stage), within the car, that I dont need to rip off the dash for.
The problem has been the thickness of wire I've been taking the feed from so need a nice thick wire to attach the inverter to.

Also if the feed has to come from outside (ie the battery directly) where is the easiest point to bring it into the car for easy reach under bonnet and in car?

Really appreciate the help...

I am pressuming that the mk2b is the same as my model. Right behind my battery there was black hole with a cable running through the firewall. I f u pierce through this you can feed a cable into the passangers footwell (well its not tha tsinple but wiggling the cable about it does eventually appear in the passangers footwell)

Hope this is actually what you were asking
